Tom Missett - Professional Background
Tom Missett has been involved in newspapers for over 45 years. He became Publisher of the Oceanside Blade-Citizen (now known as the North County Times) at the age of 26. The Blade-Citizen grew from a circulation of 5,000 to over 60,000 daily and revenues have grown in equal proportion. He expanded the Blade-Citizen into South Coast Newspapers, which published a wide range of papers in San Diego and Orange County. In addition to his experience in advertising and publishing, Missett has been very involved with his
in North San Diego County. He has been a Boy's Club board member, Chamber of Commerce President, Red Cross Board Member, United Way Coastal Chairman, Armed Forces YMCA board member, and has served with the Military Affairs Committee for many years. Since developing Signs of Support as a thriving business, Missett has served with the company as Owner and Chief Operating Officer.
In 1980, Tom Missett wrote the original RFP (Request for Proposal) to develop a newspaper publication for Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA. Missett's organization, South Coast Newspapers, was awarded the contract and Tom now independently holds the contract. The Scout was so successful over the years that the United States Navy requested that Tom lead the consolidation of seven separate San Diego County Navy base newspapers into one publication called The Compass. He now has that contract independently as well.
